YOUTH SUMMER CAMPS

St. James Academy summer sports camps are exciting opportunities for youth to interact with high school coaches and players. Learn about the St. James community and experience our team spirit while participating in activities during the break from school. Each camp fee is $100 unless otherwise specified. All camps will be held at St. James unless otherwise noted. Each camp has a minimum number of participants required so we reserve the right to cancel a camp if there are an inadequate number of registrants. See the event ticket for details. This camp will include hitting, pitching, catching, fielding, throwing, and base running. We will play 30-minute games at the end of camp on Thursday and Friday. The camp will be held at The Mid-America Sports Complex youth fields. A camp t-shirt and daily prizes will be provided. Brian all necessary baseball equipment including catcher’s gear. All campers should bring their own water bottle.

These weekly skills sessions will focus on ball handling, decision making, finishing around the basket and shot making. Players will work in small groups lead by the SJA girl’s basketball coaching staff. Skill worked on will be skills that immediately translate to basketball games.

Campers will be split into groups according to grade level; material taught will be according to grade level.  Groups will perform cheers and a pom dance for parents on last day of camp. The cost for the entire summer program is $100. Summer Weights and speed/agility workouts for all incoming Freshmen and current students begin Monday, June 6 and run through Friday, July 29th, 2021, any Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. The focus of the workouts includes strength, speed, agility, and flexibility. Workouts are held at the school and are organized and supervised by St. James Academy faculty and coaches. The summer conditioning programs do not fulfill the
physical education course requirement.

Incoming freshmen who are interested in playing baseball at St. James Academy in 2023 should attend this camp. We will introduce many of the fundamentals and team concepts that will be implemented in the spring season. Bring all personal baseball equipment and a water bottle. Wear baseball pants, a hat, and all players will receive an SJA baseball T-shirt during the first camp they can wear the rest of the sessions. ANNOTATION WORKSHOP

This camp will give students a jump-start on their summer reading annotations; focusing on the purpose for annotating a text and the various types of annotations. There will also be activities to help students understand character analysis, plot and theme development, and literary elements. Enjoy the experience of reading with a group of your classmates, participating in activities and discussions while getting to know each other. Students will need to purchase and bring their summer reading book on the first day of camp. Students need to read the first two chapters before the first session of camp. Summer Reading Book Club and Annotation Camp – Stacy Rains 2022

Sophomore English II (NOT Pre-AP Honors English II)

This camp will give students the opportunity to read their summer reading book, Lord of the Flies, together with their peers as well as a Sophomore English teacher. Students will receive guidance and motivation on tracking characters, symbols, and literary devices and have the chance to grow in annotation skills. COLLEGE ESSAY WRITING WORKSHOP FOR INCOMING SENIORS

Workshop Dates and Time: July 25-28 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Summer is a great time for students to write their college applications or scholarship essay (s). Students will meet for whole-class instruction with work time for three sessions and one session for individual conferences to address the individual needs of each student. In order to best facilitate the specific needs of the students, class size will be limited to a maximum of 20 students and a minimum of 10 students. Students will need to bring; a laptop or pen and paper, a list of colleges and/or universities, scholarship prompts (if applicable), specific prompts that apply to other applications.
