CHristian Stewardship Project

Christian Stewardship Project

Summer CSP Projects are approved through x2vol only. CSPs are NOT approved via email

1. Individual CSP

The first option is to do 30 hours with one agency that is a social service agency or a non-profit organization that follows the current guidelines for CSP (see “CSP GUIDELINES” below).

2. 30 Day Summer Stewardship Retreat

This option is only for upperclassmen. That is for students entering their junior or senior years. And a student can only do this option once. This is a self-guided, 30 Day Retreat that you can do anywhere! There are guidelines that you need to read over very carefully before you begin. Your parent(s) will be your supervisor and play an active role in this retreat. You can begin on any date in June or up until the first day of July and your progress will be tracked by daily journal entries turned into a Google Form. You can either log into X2vol as you go (with your parent as your supervisor) or wait until the end and do 1 entry for all 30 hours. This option is limited to the summer so the last day that you can start this is July 1st.

Summer Stewardship: A 30 Day Retreat

Summer CSP 30 Day Retreat

Purpose: The idea is to go on a self-guided 30 day retreat in which you will complete all 30 hours required for your CSP. You must follow the guidelines below and are expected to make a full and sincere gift of yourself where you are in your current state in life.

Part 1: The retreat will consist of the following 3 actions
Summer Stewardship Form Click Here

  1. Prayer- The Theology Department will put out a meditation for each of the 30 days of service. This, ideally, should be done at the start of the day and set an intention for the act or acts of service you will complete during the day.
  2. Fasting- This is an aspect of the Christain life that helps detach us from the thing of this world so that we can be better united with Christ. Typically it is done with food but can be done with something like your cell phone or a video game. The point is to pick something that you are attached to
  3. Almsgiving- This is going to be your service aspect of the project. You are to specifically pick a way in which you can make a fully and sincere gift of yourself to the people around you. This could be visiting a family member in a nursing home through the window or helping out a neighbor in need. The goal is that you are able to see the people in need around you and us your gifts and abilities to serve them.
    1. You must complete at least 10 Hours at a Charitable Organization that meets the standards of normal CSP. If you are a Junior or Senior you must be working directly with people. These hours can be done at any point over the 30 days and can count for your act of almsgiving for that day.
    2. Those hours must be logged on x2vol with a volunteer coordinator.

Part 2: Daily Reflection
Daily Reflections Click Here

At the end of each day you are to reflect in a short journal entry about the 3 things listed above. A typical journal entry would be giving your thoughts about the prayer, giving an update on your area of fasting and go into detail of the service that you performed. This will serve as your mandatory service log and will help you see growth throughout the retreat.

Guidelines:

  • Your parent will be your supervisor for the CSP Retreat and will have to take part of 3 short “check-ins.” These are meant to be little conversations between you and your child about the service being performed.
    • Day 1- What are some areas that your child could possibly be making themselves a gift in your life right now? What are some possible ideas for the fasting portion of the CSP?
    • Day 15- How are things going? Which day, so far, has stood out to you of your child making a gift of themselves? Was there a time in which you were proud of your child? Is there room from growth in any of these areas?
    • Day 30- In what areas have you seen growth in your child? What was the most challenging aspect of this? What was the most rewarding aspect?
  • This is meant to be 30 consecutive days of reflection and service, but we will allow 2 “grace” days. So you are to complete your 30 prayers/fasting/almsgivings in a span of 32 days. If you miss a day, just continue on and do the extra days (if you miss day 9, skip it and do 10 the next day and end on day 31).
  • You will upload your daily reflections to Google forms and they will be time stamped. This means that you can not do 30 reflections in 1 or 2 days.

3. Family Service Projects

This option will involve planning a project (or multiple) while serving alongside your family! You will have a family meeting to set up and document your service projects. You will be required to do 20 hours of service together (that is 20 individual hours NOT 5 people serving 4 hours together). You can serve up to four different social service/nonprofit organizations.  Your parent(s) will be your supervisor. Please log your service into x2vol as you go (freshmen and transfers your accounts will be set up soon, so just keep a log of your experiences and you can log the hours in later).

CSP GUIDELINES

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • Students will complete a minimum of 30 service hours at one social service organization each year.
  • Unless otherwise approved, students will complete service with four different service organizations over the course of four years. The service needs to be aimed at helping those who are most in need of help.
A parent or close family member should not be the contact person for an agency.
  • Pre-Approval, Change of Agency, and Hours will be logged and approved through the x2Vol website. If you are an upperclassman, this can be accessed through your Naviance account. Freshmen go directly through the x2Vol website.
  • Service will be approved by Theology teacher at the given due date of Pre-Approvals.
  • Approval will be due the first semester as a checkpoint for their progress. There will be two other checkpoints throughout the first semester that if students have not met the criteria of expectation, they will be required to attend a morning detention on a previously scheduled late start Wednesday.
  • Hours should be logged into x2Vol as they are completed. When logged, x2Vol will automatically send a confirmation email to the coordinating supervisor and they will confirm that the work has been done.
  • All hours are due by Sunday, March 24th, 2024.
  • At the end of the year students will initiate a CSP Essential Questions Discussion. Freshmen-Juniors will have their discussion with their house mentor teachers. Seniors will have their discussion in front of a select panel on Holy Thursday.
  • Summer CSP: Students may perform their CSP during the summer for the next school year’s credit. You will need to turn in a Pre-Approval notice through x2Vol and it will be confirmed by Mr. Walters. If you wish to do a summer CSP it is suggested you read the requirements for your grade, posted on the school website, in order to be certain that it meets the requirements of your grade level or else hours may not be counted for CSP.
  • If a change of agency is required, you must fill out a new Pre-Approval entry on x2Vol and the service from the previous agency will not count toward your yearly 30 hours. This is why it is extremely important that you communicate with your agency at the time of Pre-Approval.
  • For sophomore through senior year, the March for Life in Washington, D.C. will count for 20 hours and the remaining 10 hours need to be done with a Pro-Life agency. The 10 hours need to be Pre-Approved by the normal Pre-Approval date. You cannot be Pre-Approved for the March for Life only.
  • SJA Team camps do not count for CSP.
  • Students will not be excused during school hours to work on their CSP. Any CSP hours worked during school hours will not be counted toward their required hours.
  • Parents or other close family members should not be the coordinating supervisor for your Individual CSP. One parent will need to be the coordinating supervisor if you choose the Summer Retreat Option or the Family Service Option.
