INFORMATION ABOUT THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL

August 10, 2023 (Check-in 6:45 p.m., Event 7:00-8:15 p.m.)

Check-In for Freshmen & Transfer Students

We encourage freshmen, transfer students, and at least one parent to attend the New Student Check-in on Thursday, August 10. During this event, students will receive their laptops (if they haven’t already), have an opportunity to walk their class schedule, find their locker, meet and interact with our student leaders, and more!

  • 6:45 pm Check-in begins. The event runs from 7:00 – 8:15 p.m.

August 14, 2023 (8:35 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.)

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL for all Freshmen, Transfers, and Senior Captains

All Freshmen and Transfer students and Senior Captains are required to attend; all other seniors are invited to help lead this day but not required to come.

    • Red Carpet 7:45-8:30 a.m.
    • All School Mass 8:45 a.m.
    • Dismissal 12:30 p.m.
    • Wear school uniform
    • Do not bring a laptop, lunch, or backpack.

August 17th and 18th – School Pictures

  • Freshmen – Junior students will wear their school uniforms for the pictures. Pictures will be taken during the school day.
  • SENIORS – Attire is as follows:
    • Boys wear SJA white button down shirt and SJA tie with uniform pants; navy jacket will be provided.
    • Girls wear your school uniform; a navy sweater and pearl necklace will be provided.

August 19th (Saturday) – Fall Sports Parent Meeting, Pictures (8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.)

  • If your student participates in a fall sport, at least one parent must attend.
  • An email will be sent out from your coach with specifics.

August 23rd – Back To School Night (7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m.)

  • Additional information will be sent out in the weekly Community Update.

August 29th – Senior Parent Night

  • 6:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m – Graduation and Project Graduation Information
  • 7:05 p.m. -7:45 p.m. – Senior College Application Timeline
  • 7:50 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. – Financial Aid Information

September 5th OR 6th – Parent Bootcamp

  • Evening “Bootcamp” on some of the most difficult parenting issues, with sessions provided by experienced parents and educators who can help give guidance and resources.
  • Attending one of the two evening options will be required for all families who are new to St. James, but will be available to all parents who want to attend!

September 6th – Kansas City Private High Schools’ College Night (6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.)

NOTE LOCATION – Rockhurst High School Gym

  • Over 75 colleges will be attending this event. Registration information will be available in August.

September 9th – ACT Test

  • Register at www.act.org
  • Regular Registration Deadline – Aug. 4, 2023

November 6th – SJA College Fair

  • Freshman – Senior families are invited to attend the college fair.  There will be individual college preparation meetings by class. Over 30 colleges will be in attendance.

Physical & Concussion Forms

  • In order for your student to tryout/practice/participate in a sport a Physical and Concussion form dated after May 1, 2023, must be submitted online through PRIVIT.
  • Failure to turn in this form by the deadline will result in tryout ineligibility.

    • Hard copies of physical and concussion forms will not be accepted.
    • Fall sports begin on Monday, August 14th.

  • All students will need the following: TI84 Calculator, Personal Earbuds, Pocket folders, Paper, Pens and Pencils, 3-pack of Clorox wipes, 2 boxes of Kleenexes.
  • Class-specific school supplies will be given by each teacher the first week of school.
