National Merit

Press Release

On Monday, September 20th, St. James Academy received notification that five members of its current senior class are being recognized as Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Commended Students scored among the top 50,000 scorers on last spring’s PSAT, putting them in roughly the top 3% of all testers nationwide. The members of the SJA class of 2022 who were recognized as Commended Students are:

Joseph Hotze
Nora Ley
Zachary Maurer
Audrey Montanez
Allison Newkirk

In addition, two seniors are being recognized by College Board’s Hispanic Recognition Program. This program recognizes students of Hispanic descent who have a 3.5 GPA or higher and also score in the top 10% of PSAT testers. These students are Jordan Irvine and Hannah Cordova.

“To have 7 out of our 204 seniors recognized in the National Merit competition is an extraordinary achievement, especially given the obstacles this class has had to overcome over the last two years,” said Andy Tylicki, President of St. James. “These seven young men and women are representative of the amazing talent and hard work within this senior class, and in so many ways they exemplify the type of students we strive to form at St. James. We couldn’t be more proud to be associated with these outstanding kids.”

Please join us in congratulating these students and their families for this extraordinary achievement!
